- The first excerpt is from the introduction and explains how to use the book. This section gives an explanation as to how the book is set up and what the reader can expect when using it.
- Pages two and three of each chapter include the text in modern form with pinyin, the Vocabulary, and the beginning of the Notes section. This selection comes from Chapter Eight. The Notes section from each chapter contains between four and nine notes, and can be anywhere from 2-6 pages long, depending on the chapter.
- The Translation and Character Focus sections here are taken from Chapter Five.
- This is a sample of the first page from Chapter Four. The first page of every chapter is presented in this way so that it is easy to review previous chapters easily to find areas you may need to concentrate your efforts. You should be excited when you see this page, because it is the goal of this book to teach you how to read such texts with ease.
